CORRELATION BETWEEN STRENGTH AND VERTICAL LOAD IN THE OPTIMUM DESIGN OF CONCRETE SLABS

EFECTO DE CORRELACION ENTRE RESISTENCIA Y CARGA VERTICAL EN DISENO OPTIMO DE LOSAS DE CONCRETO

A study is presented of the correlation between loading and strength in the case of simply supported concrete slabs where the vertical load and resistant moment are both function of banking. In this study a Gaussian distribution is assigned to the safety margin. The coefficient of relation between loading and strength is determined for representative conditions, and its influence on design is analyzed for a fixed level of safety together with its effect on optimum design, attention being drawn to the fact that the effect is less important for continuous slabs. It is emphasized that data on correlations between effective banking for a negative moment and overall banking must be collected together with the costs of a slab reaching the limit state, and that non-gaussian probability distributions must be use used in this study.
