THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE KOTON-KARIFI BRIDGE IN NIGERIA
LA CONSTRUCTION DU PONT DE KOTON-KARIF AU NIGERIA
Details are given of the general design of the bridge which will cross the Niger near the village of Koton-Karifi where the river reaches a width of 1800 M. This cantilevered bridge with cast-in-situ segments comprises 17 96-M spans between the axes of the piers, the spans to the banks being 61 M. A description is given of the foundations, the deck consisting of 2 variable inertia box girders fixed to each other, driving techniques and control of foundations, cantilever techniques, building of the deck, programming of the works, anddconstruction tolerances.
