THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE BRIDGE OVER THE RIVER CAYENNE
CONSTRUCTION DU PONT SUR LA RIVIERE DE CAYENNE
This article describes the crossing of the River Cayenne by the RN1, the design and the construction of the structures. The spanning structure, of very conventional design to reduce possible risks in a very remote area, is characterized mainly by its foundations. The bedrock is sometimes located at a depth of over 30 M under a layer of mud and decomposed granitic rock. However in midstream a rocky spur touches the surface of the river bed making the anchorage of thee piles particularly difficult. (TRRL)
