THE TESTING OF SHOCK ABSORBERS ON THE TEST RIG

The paper is concerned with the functional design and the quality checking of the shock absorber. So that the high demands of comfort and safety in a vehicle are achieved by a shock absorber, the desired damping behaviour in relation to piston speed is realised by the design of the functional elements of the shock absorber. By means of the test machines described in the report, data are determined in the laboratory, so that it is possible to compare the planned and achieved characteristic data. In shock absorber manufacture the test machine is used to determine characteristic data in the sense of quality control and surveillance of the manufacturing process. The way the shock absorber machines work is described, and different designs for different exercises are indicated. (TRRL)
