TEST OF DRIVING APTITUDE UNDER THE INFLUENCE OF DRUGS AND ALCOHOL

UEBERPRUEFUNG DER FAHRTUECHTIGKEIT UNTER DEM EINFLUSS VON MEDIKAMENTEN UND ALKOHOL

Studies of the interaction of alcohol and drugs showed the significant lengthening of response time caused by the alcohol and the impairment of driving aptitude, the greatest difference being in the range of maximum blood alcohol contents (45 to 75 minutes after the start of drinking). As alcohol is eliminated the values improve. In contrast, under the influence of the beta blocker this effect does not appear until there is average blood alcohol concentration, not at the beginning as expected. Small doses of mepindolol sulphate or diazepam did not lead to changes in performance or reaction times. A dosage of 0.8 g ethyl alcohol per kg body weight resulted in some considerable impairments.
