TECHNICAL AND PHYSIOLOGICAL PROBLEMS IN BREATH ALCOHOL MEASUREMENT

TECHNISCHE UND PHYSIOLOGISCHE PROBLEME BEI ATEMALKOHOLMESSUNG

A whole series of physical principles are known, by means of which it is possible to carry out breath alcohol determination. Reliable blood alcohol analysis is technically possible. The question of forensic application, however, presupposes the transferring of breath and blood alcohol concentrations by means of a fixed correlation. The technical and physiological problems associated with this are discussed. Breath mechanics, which can be influenced at will by the subject tested, plays a part. Physiological sources of error are illustrated by means of examples. (TRRL)
