COMPARATIVE STATISTICAL EVALUATIONS OF INTERNAL INSPECTION AND CONTROL TESTS

VERGLEICHENDE STATISTISCHE AUSWERTUNGEN VON EIGENUEBERWACHUNGS-UND KONTROLLPRUEFUNGEN

The TV bit and the TVT 72 determine testing for bituminous mixing materials. Apart from usability tests, it is necessary to carry out internal inspections and control tests. The paper reports on a comparative investigation for rolled asphalt 0/11 based on internal inspection and on control tests. The samples for internal inspection were taken at the mixing plant, and the samples for the control tests on site were always taken from the same lorry. In practice, the samples are normally taken quite independently from each other. Apart from data comparisons there are statistical tests in the report on the significant factors of the mixing materials (binder content, filler content, proportion greater than 2 mm, porosity). For further investigations it should be remembered that it is not only the relative fine grained mixes of wearing courses which are of interest, but also the coarser grained mixes of basecourses and roadbases, which, experience shows, are more likely to segregate. This can cause a larger degree of scatter in tests. (TRRL)
