The article describes a new AEG- Telefunken concept for the control of secondary retarders by using a processor, which meets the high accuracy requirements in maintaining the preset exit speeds. The system configuration built around a process computer is described. The control method is digital with the aid of a control and regulating algorithm. An important characteristic of the algorithm is that for determination of the required and permissible braking forces all static and dynamic data of the humping are measured and processed. Braking control is by way of a controlled variable which is proportional to the dissipated kinetic energy. This is formed as a distance-dependent sum function. By means of the results it is shown that the concept meets the requirements and that the chosen equipment has sufficient reserve capacity.
