Grand River Dam Authority, an Oklahoma utility, has established a management information system for its fleet of 484 unit-train coal hopper cars. A minicomputer accumulates data on maintenance and mileage to evolve a program of preventive maintenance. The data base is used for auditing car repair billing and for generating information on scheduled and unscheduled maintenance on each car, including unit costs.
