SAN DIEGO LIGHT RAIL: ON TRACK '81
Metropolitan Transit Development Board is meeting its 30-month schedule for converting a 14-mile segment of former freight-only San Diego and Arizona Eastern Railway into a light-rail transit line reaching the Mexican border. Methods of acquiring SD&AE, funding the project without UMTA participation, construction details, operations planning and estimates of potential traffic are detailed. MTDB owns entire 115-mile railroad and is resuming freight service to the East over this mountainous region.
