THE U.S. COAST GUARD'S VIEWS ON POLLUTION FROM SHIPS
The United States Coast Guard regulations apply to all water craft plying the waters of the United States and all U.S. vessels in other waters. It is this regulatory function of the Coast Guard as it applied to the potential for pollution of the seas by a commercial ship that is discussed. The U.S. requirements for foreign vessels are summarised, and the requisite codification quoted as a finding guide to the text of the regulations. The brief description of the process and guidelines used for the regulatory process should assist in the understanding of the U.S. regulations on pollution prevention. The Federal Water Pollution Control Act, 1972 and the Ports and Waterways Safety Act, 1972 are also quoted. Order for BSRA as No. 52,739.
