At little or no cost to manufacturers refinements could be made to tank container designs which would enable significantly improved performance. In particular, tank damage and cargo loss could be reduced and safety standards raised. This is the view expressed by Roy Boneham, bulk liquids manager of Bell Lines, a company involved in virtually every phase of tank container operations. In this article, drawing upon Bell Lines' particular experience, Boneham identifies the areas of concern in tank design practice and highlights possible remedies.
