NOTES ON THE BEHAVIOUR OF A BOGIE EQUIPPED WITH INDEPENDENT WHEELS

The results are given of a series of tests carried out with a bogie equipped with axles with independent rotating wheels on the narrow-gauge railway line Rome-Fiuggi. A comparison was made with the behaviour of an identical bogie equipped with traditional wheelsets, with particular reference to transversal acceleration, geometric positioning and side motion. Furthermore, in the case of axles with independent wheels, an analysis was made of the relative rotations between the two wheels of a single axle. The last paragraph of the memorandum is dedicated to the detection of the state of stress of an axle with independent wheels departing from the extensimetric examination of the flexion deformations in six sections of the axle; an indication is also given of a circuit layout with operational amplifiers for the direct determination of the forces departing from the signals representing the deformations.
