FORD'S FIGHT AGAINST CORROSION
A very brief account is given of Ford Motor Co.'s new multi-stage anti-corrosion treatment which is being progressively integrated into the production systems of all Ford car plants in Europe. The treatment introduces four new stages into the metal and paint finishing program: additional high-pressure cleaning of the bodyshells by jets of de-ionized water, the use of the cationic electropriming process, the application of a stone-chip resistant PVC material, and the injection of a wax into enclosed sections of the underbody. Also, Ford has introduced the use of fiber optics in quality control of its cars.
