A GENERAL STEREOGRAPHIC METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE POSSIBLE MODE OF FAILURE OF ANY TETRAHEDIAL ROCK WEDGE

The paper describes a stereographic method for determining the possible mode of failure of a tetrahedral rock wedge, either in a rock slope or bounding an underground excavation. The method is more general than those previously published in that all non-rotational modes of failure are considered and the method is not restricted to rock slope failures. A table facilitates failure mode identification and worked examples are provided. (a) (TRRL)
