NEW RECORDING SYSTEMS FOR DEFLECTOGRAPHS. EQUIPMENT AND PROCESSING OF RESULTS

NOUVEAUX SYSTEMES D'ENREGISTREMENT POUR DEFLECTOGRAPHES- EQUIPEMENT-EXPLOITATION

The 32 deflectographs operating in France at the present time carry out a large number of measurements each year, the collection and processing of which necessitated as far back as 1967 the use of computerized techniques. Working under extremely difficult conditions, the recorders operated satisfactorily for approximately 10 years. They were not directly compatible with the computers in use. For maintenance reasons, their replacement has become necessary at a time when new recording systems using compatible cassettes come increasingly into use. The processing of deflection measurements gives rise to two problems: (1) measurement processes and computer programs must show sufficient homogeneity so that results and equipment can be compared between themselves; (2) the many applications of the deflectograph, which sometimes necessitate different recording and processing systems, must be fully exploited. The introduction of this new equipment will have consequences on the conditions of use of the measuring apparatus and on methods of processing the results. (TRRL)
