CONRAIL MOVES AHEAD IN TELECOMMUNICATIONS

Early in 1980 Conrail put into service a Bell System Enhanced Private Switched Communication Service (EPSCS) for telecommunications throughout its system. Four new electronic switching centers and a computer, located in the network control center at Philadelphia, comprise the core of the new system. The phone network provides automatic control of all calls on and off the system and upgrades the speed and quality of the service.
