TRAFFIC EDUCATION IN A SPECIAL SCHOOL

The author reviews his personal introduction to "step" and the training and experience which suited him for the task of educating school leavers in the use of motorcycles. The complexities of some of the skills in "step" were simplified and the syllabus adjusted according to the progress made by different pupils. Comments are included on a number of riding skills which were practised and a description is given of practical training within school grounds. Basic items of maintenance and servicing which school leavers may undertake are discussed. Data concerning traffic flows and engine performance details are suggested as examples for record-keeping. Traffic legislation was considered, and comments are made on the assessment of pupils' progress. (TRRL)
