EPILEPSY AFTER HEAD TRAUMA AND FITNESS TO DRIVE
Although a driving licence can be held in the UK by epileptic drivers after three years without an epileptic fit, with or without medication, the article considers who should be responsible for informing authorities of a tendency to epilepsy. While in several American states a doctor is held responsible, in the UK it is suggested that this responsibility should lie with the driver. Here, the doctors' duty is limited to ensuring that the patient is aware of his own responsibility to report the risk of epilepsy. The risks of epilepsy after head injury or when associated with various intracranial surgical procedures are discussed. (TRRL)
