The study contains an examination of the performance, availability, and reliability, compared with conventional means of maritime communications; a cost comparison; and new operational benefits. The study, with its supporting statistics and tables, provides a good basis for review of the benefits of equipping vessels with MARISAT mobile satellite communications terminals.
