The critical situation of the oil market and the recent 30% increase of fuel costs have had their influence on transportation. For the same distance cars and trucks burn six times more fuel than railroads and furthermore are totally dependent on oil. This explains the fact that in times of energy crisis the DB is seen as an element of security.
