RECOMMENDATION FOR CONDITIONS OF USE OF BOLTING - PROVISIONAL TEXT

RECOMMANDATION SUR LES CONDITIONS D'EMPLOI DU BOULONNAGE - TEXTE PROVISOIRE

This draft recommendation aims at defining the conditions of use of bolting in underground constructions (excluding mines) and facilitating the selection of bolting parameters. After recalling the historic development of the use of bolts and role of bolting, the author describes the different types of bolt: bolts anchored at one point only (mechanical Anchorage or Anchorage with resin), bolts sealed over their whole length (with injected grout or resin), or cast-in-situ. Mention is made of the influence of the geometry of the structure and of the methods of execution. A table proposes a simplified way of applying the conditions of use of bolting to the nature of the terrain. Attention is drawn to the fact that bolting, which is one of the rare means of support which is an in-depth treatment around a cavity, necessitates a wide experience and the control of the effectiveness of the support by means of non-destructive methods.
