QUALITY AND GUARANTEE OF READY-MIXED CONCRETE

QUALITE ET GARANTIES DU BETON PRET A L'EMPLOI

The authors describe the French Standard P 18 305 which regulates the supply of ready-mixed concrete, the AFNOR acceptance stamp and agreement for mixing plants by some administrative authorities (Ministere de l'Equipement, SNCF). But the general opinion of specialists in the field is too strict and does not encourage the development of the use of concrete containing admixtures and of concrete sold "according to shrength", e.g. according to desired performance and not to proportioning. The authors propose an evolution in regulations to align them with the wish of ready-mixed concrete manufacturers and users. This would lead to a better adaptation of manufacture to the increasingly specific needs on site, to a fluid concrete adapted to certain laying processes, concrete with an improved strength when young, hot concrete, lightweight aggregate concrete, coloured concrete.
