STATE OF THE ART OF TESTS ON DRAIN COATING FILTERS AT THE CTGREF (CENTRE TECHNIQUE DU GENIE RURAL DES EAUX ET DES FORETS)

LE POINT SUR LES ESSAIS DE FILTERS D'ENROBAGE DE DRAINS AU CTGREF

This brief article summarizes observations and tests which were carried out over several years in containers full of sand and in-situ. The tests were conducted on various coating materials for drains available on the market. The observations concern the hydraulic function and that of the separation of the various materials (anticontaminating filter). The results of the tests seem to indicate that it would be desirable to utilize synthetic fibre coatings (that are not subject to decomposition), which should be sufficiently fine to ensure effective filtration. In-situ tests show that effective coatings weigh over 150 gr/m2 and are thicker than 2 mm. (TRRL)
