SEEPAGE IN UNDERGROUND CAVITIES. APPLICATIONS TO THE DEWATERING OF SURFACE EXCAVATION PITS. PART 2: ELLIPSOIDAL CAVITIES. APPLICATIONS

FILTRATIONS DANS LES CAVITES SOUTERRAINES - APPLICATIONS A L'EPUISEMENT DES FOUILLES SUPPERFICIELLES; 2EME PARTIE: CAVITES ELLIPSOIDALS - APPLICATIONS

In Part 2, the method of pictures alone is used to examine the same cases as for spherical cavities, e.g. cases when the water-table is either inside or above the mass and when the terrain consists of two layers of different permeability or of three layers, the two extreme layers of which have the same permeability. This theoretical study which generalizes that of Mandel (1979) leads to important practical applications: LeFranc tests, dewatering of surface excavation pits, lowering of filtering wells. Numerical tables are appended to facilitate the use of the formulae given. (for Part 1 see TRIS abstranct no 311999.) (TRRL)
