NEW OPTICAL METHODS FOR STUDYING THE BEHAVIOUR OF STRUCTURES AND MATERIALS

NOUVELLES METHODES OPTIQUES POUR L'ETUDE DU COMPORTEMENT DES STRUCTURES ET MATERIAUX

Among the methods of investigation used in experimental stress analysis, optical methods have the advantage of minimum interaction with the value to be measured. In this article the following points are the subject of a special study: (1) holography and its applications: study of plates, determination of the Poisson's ratio failure mechanism, ability of determining stress conditions at any point of plane elastic mmodels, Buckling of beams with thin webs; (2) the Moire method and the method of projected fringes: application to the determination of the strength and rotation of welded assemblies; (3) the Speckle technique: determination of the complete field of displacements in the joints between prefabricated panels.
