EXPERIMENTAL STUDY OF STRESSES AND DEFORMATIONS IN LOESS PLACED UNDER EXPERIMENTAL RIGID PLATES

EHKSPERIMENTAL&'NOE ISSSLEDOVANIE NAPRYAZHENNO-DEFORMIROVANNOGO SOSTOYANIYA LESSOVYKH GRUNTOV

This article presents the results of a study conducted on 2 foundation sites: one with the soil having a natural moisture content, the other after wetting the loess. A special method of installation of the gauges enabled the initial stresses of the soil to be known. The results obtained after loading of the plates led to the determination of: the deformability of the soil under loads, the stress distribution at the base of the footing, and the vertical and horizontal stresses and deformations as a function of the depth. The marked influence of the initial stress and moisture content on the values measured was demonstrated. (TRRL)
