EFFECT OF ACCIDENT LOCATION, DAY OF THE WEEK, AND MONTH ON THE SEVERITY OF ROAD ACCIDENTS IN THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY 1964-1974

EINFLUSS DER UNFALLORTE, WOCHENTAGE UND MONATE AUF DIE UNFALLSCHWERE BEI STRASSENVERKEHRSUNFAELLEN IN DER BUNDESREPUBLIK DEUTSCHLAND 1964-1974

Accident statistics for the Federal Republic of Germany for the years 1964-1974 are being used to determine whether the severity of road accidents involving personal injury is related to site of the accident, day of the week, and month. The object is to qualify the effect of these parameters on accident severity, by which is understood the number of people involved per 100 accidents. The studies relate to accidents involving personal injury/casualties/accident severity classified according to day, accident site inside or outside built up areas, day of the week from Monday to Sunday and groups of weekdays, monthly from January to December and groups of months. Between 1964 and 1974 3.8 million accidents involving personal injury occurred, in which 5.44 million people were casualties. The values of accident severity determined in relation to the number of accidents inside and outside built up areas at various times are illustrated in diagrams. (TRRL)
