INFRA-RED DATA TRANSMISSION SYSTEM IN ACTION AT ECT
In high throughput container terminals there is a growing requirement for high performance information systems which operate between the central terminal control and a variety of decentralised locations. Europe Container Terminus (ECT) of Rotterdam, was one of the first terminal operators to experience the need for this type of system. Accordingly, today ECT is one of the few terminals which has made considerable advances in introducing such systems. In this article ECT's EDP manager, traces the progress made in this field to date, paying particular attention to the infra-red data transmission system originally devised by P Latour, consultant and which ECT has recently brought on stream.
