DEEPEST CALM TERMINAL TO BE INSTALLED IN BUCHAN FIELD

The decision to use an offshore loading system in 369 ft of water in the North Sea resulted in the installation of a catenary anchor leg mooring (CALM) terminal. Eliminating the alternative of a pipeline to shore from Block 21/1 in the rough water, operator BP weighed standard industry options. Location of the Buchan field called for a modified CALM terminal with adaptations to the basic design. Design, development and testing of the CALM terminal, which will be used by BP to deliver up to 48,000 b/d from seven wells in the Buchan field, U. K. North Sea, are discussed.
