DFDS' JACK OF ALL TRADES
Extending the definition of the multi-purpose cargo ship concept, DFDS has developed a particularly flexible vessel type based on a ro-ro configuration but incorporating extensive vertical handling facilities. Four ships of this class have been ordered, the first two of which are currently in service, for trading between the US Gulf/East Coast, Mediterranean, Caribbean/Central America and Mexico on the DFDS Nordana Line. As the range of ports and type of cargoes varies considerably, the ships are designed to be completely self-sufficient and accordingly cargo gear includes a 120 ton derrick, 36 ton deck crane, side port and stern ramp.
