PERFORMANCE BASES FOR THE USE OF ARAMID FIBER IN MARINE APPLICATIONS

The unique combination of high strength, high modulus, low elongation, light weight and corrosion resistance of Kevlar aramid fibers have led to their use in a variety of applications in the marine environment. This paper describes the technical bases for the use of these fibers in mechanical lines, electromechanical cables, reinforced composites, coated fabrics, and high performance hoses. Specific examples are provided illustrating these uses.
