A LABORATORY STUDY ON THE ADHESION OF CRUDE OIL TO BEACH SAND IN THE PRESENCE OF A DISPERSANT

The objective of this small laboratory study was to describe some of the properties of adhesion of a chemically dispersed crude oil. Experiments were conducted to determine: (1) The effect of grain size and temperature on adhesion and mobility of a pre-mixed dispersant-oil mixture; (2) The effects of various dispersant application times on the mobility of sand-bound oil; (3) The effect of duration of oil-dispersant contact on adhesion and movement of oil through sand.
