SYNTHETIC FIBER ROPE, PROPERTIES AND CALCULATIONS RELATING TO MOORING SYSTEMS

The strength and elongation properties of synthetic fiber rope are discussed and specific engineering data is presented. Empirical load/elongation relationships for nylon, polyester and polypropylene ropes are developed. Guidelines and equations for utilizing these ropes in a taut single leg mooring configuration are presented.
