RAIL DEFECTS
Detection and correctly naming/classifying the rail defects by railway engineers and speedy action can save the serious consequences of failure of rails and derailments. For reducing the cost of maintenance and achieving greater safety and increased life of rails, a vigilant, responsible and conscientious inspecting engineer must have perfect knowledge of rail defects, their origin and source, cause and reason of their development. Attempt has been made in this paper to define/classify seventy two rail defects with their source of origin, reason and development.
