IN-TRACK WELDER FILLS BILL FOR CLOSURE WELDS ON SOUTHERN
In-track welding to form closures of continuous welded rail on Southern's major rail projects is now done by the electric-flash method. Southern has fitted Holland Mobile Welder into its "dual" method of laying CWR where strings are placed between running rails and then simultaneously threaded out to final position. Upset metal of new weld is removed by shear, a new feature of the process all of which is done by a highway/rail vehicle.
