C & NW: NEW DIMENSIONS IN MANAGING FREIGHT CAR MAINTENANCE
Chicago and North Western is advancing its computerized maintenance system from just controlling car repair costs to managing them. Having established a basis for unit costing, the system is now being utilized to determine wear patterns for car components, particularly wheels and draft gear, that will make possible preventive maintenance and changes in car design and materials.
