SURVEY PROCEDURES FOR THE BOSTON CENTRAL ARTERY ORIGIN-DESTINATION STUDY
The paper emphasizes the survey procedures. Two kinds of origin-destination patterns were sought. One was the determination of actual starting and ending points of trips. This involved the long-range pattern between different communities, or between different parts of the same community, regardless of the route used to make the trip. The second pattern to be determined was the specific paths followed by vehicles within the Central Artery project area from each on-ramp to each off-ramp -- the short-range pattern.
