NEW SUBBASE DESIGN USES COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE AGGREGATES
A recent experimental highway paving project in Kentucky is described which shows that a two-layer drainage system of commercially-available aggregates under a flexible pavement gives a cost effective design that can be placed with normal equipment. The two-layers consist of a dense-graded aggregate filter course under a crushed limestone drainage blanket connected to a positive underdrain pipe system.
