INDUCTION MACHINES FOR TRACTION
The squirrel-cage induction machine is increasingly recognized as a better traction motor compared to other alternatives. Due to the recent advances in power electronics the advantages of the squirrel-cage induction machine can now be fully exploited. This paper discusses the potential of the induction machine in transport applications and presents models suitable for investigating the performance characteristics of variable frequency, variable voltage induction machines.
