DIFFERENCE IN CONTRACTUAL PRACTICES IN TUNNELLING AMONG VARIOUS CONTRACT AWARDING AGENCIES
The paper discusses three general areas in which contract disputes have been found to arise. The three areas include those relating to the treatment of the contract price breakdown, those concerned with changes in the contract arising from changed physical conditions and working conditions, and those connected with sliding of contract price to reflect fluctuations in wages and commodity prices. Contract documents of actual projects have been compared with standard contract conditions to reveal that a considerable difference exists in the contract clauses dealing with changed conditions. Several improvements in contract clauses are proposed.
