IMPROVING SHIP STEERABILITY WITH THE AID OF FIXED ECCENTRIC NOZZLES

The paper discusses a method of improving the steerability of single-rudder twin-shaft ships with fixed propeller nozzles through variation in the orientation of the nozzles relative to the axes of the propeller shafts. This is accomplished by rotating the nozzels about their vertical axes so that the horizontal projections of shaft and nozzle axes form angles of not over 10-12 deg., at which the thrust vector coincides with the nozzle axis. The various forces and moments involved are presented in mathematical functions. Order from BSRA as No. 52,329.
