MES 80--A MICROCOMPUTER SYSTEM FOR RAILWAY SIGNALLING
Microcomputers permit the use of decentralized control systems wherever process computers were previously employed. Owing to the more exacting demands which the signalling process places on the control equipment (e.g. in respect of temperature and reliability), a special microcomputer system (MES 80) was developed by the signalling division of Siemens for the requirements of reliable process control. Its main features are an enlarged temperature range of minus 40 to plus 85 deg. C at the module and an instruction cycle time of 1.3 microseconds for the central processor. The system helps to reduce costs and time, and gives economical operation even when used with smaller interlocking frames.
