THE AUTOMATION OF MEDIUM-CAPACITY MARSHALLING YARDS
Speed control of humped cars using the method of distance braking from the secondary retarder is a suitable concept for the automation of medium-size marshalling yards. The DB is at present testing various methods. Experience so far gained indicates that by using this concept it is possible to achieve greater economy, efficiency and quality in marshalling yard work compared with the traditional procedure using switchmen.
