REFLECTORIZED ROADWAY LININGS CUT HIGHWAY ACCIDENT, DEATH TOLLS
Various studies by both governmental and non-governmental entities reveal conclusively that on highways, roads and streets, properly marked with reflectorized stripling, there resulted a significant reduction in accidents and deaths. An analysis of the Pavement Marking Industry study together with reports on highway safety from the U. S. DOT, reveals important benefits to the motoring public from proper roadway striping in terms of lives saved, injuries prevented and property and economic losses avoided. Reflectorized edgelines alone can be expected to reduce accidents by more than 10 percent and the addition of center lines results in a reduction of at least 20 percent. Accident reduction in various states tested ranged from 14 percent in Kansas to 64 percent in California, while lives saved were 39 percent in Kansas and 78 percent in Michigan.
