TRAFFIC SIMULATION MODELS BASED ON THE CAR FOLLOWING THEORY

SUI MODELLI DI SIMULAZIONE DI TRAFFICO BASATI SULLA TEORIA DEL VEICOLO ACCODATO

This article discusses the mathematical modelling of road networks and traffic flows in urban areas. Based on the car following theory, first approach simulations are formulated for various concentrations of traffic flows. An important limitation in the application of this theory is that it assumes an absence of overtaking. Consequently the results are more reliable when densities are high enough to prevent overtaking, or when overtaking is prohibited, for example in tunnels.
