A Comprehensive Risk Analysis of Transportation Networks Affected by Rainfall-Induced Multihazards

This article presents a comprehensive risk analysis of transportation networks in China that are affected by rainfall-induced multihazards, such as floods, landslides, and debris flows. Climate change is anticipated to bring both more severe sudden events as well as long-term structural deterioration due to shifts in rainfall and wind conditions. The author’ risk analysis includes both the failure probability of infrastructure components and the expected infrastructure network losses (efficiency and capacity) due to component failure. The authors use the Chinese national rail system and its exposure to rainfall-related multihazards as a case study. In the case study, each of the links is considered from the perspectives of topological, efficiency, and capacity criticality. The article includes risk maps of the Chinese national railway system.
