THE ELECTRONIC GAS WATCHDOG: A UNIT SUITABLE FOR DETECTING THE PRESENCE OF GAS IN A SIGNAL CONTROLLER

The unit, currently in use in the West Midlands, is capable of detecting natural gas at a concentration at/or 10 per cent below that required for an explosion. It is possible to include data from the detector in that transmitted by an outstation without extensive modifications. The unit, which is contained in a case of dimensions 120 x 65 x 40 mm is completely independent, requiring only connection to the mains supply and the outstation transmission unit interface. "Watchdogs" installed at particularly sensitive sites in the West Midlands have given satisfactory results over a six week period. The circuit is based on a modified standard commercially available design. A visual display is fitted so that a visual inspection and check test can be made on site. (TRRL)
