DETECTION OF SUBTERRANEAN CAVITIES BY MEANS OF GEOPHYSICAL METHODS

DETECTION DES CAVITES SOUTERRAINES PAR DES METHODES GEOPHYSIQUES

The article reviews and compares geophysical methods used in tests carried out on a known subterranean cavity which was not detected with microgravimetry. The methods: electrical remote logging, seismic reflection and focalization of electric currents enabled the cavity to be detected. For each technique principles are given together with the limits of the method when possible, problems of application and interpretation of measurements. The artificial magneto-telluric method did not give satisfactory results. (TRRL)
