NextGen for Airports: A Primer

The Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen) consists of a set of near-term technologies with implications that differ for individual airports. Airport senior executives need to understand how NextGen programs and capabilities can change the established processes and operations at their airports, impact future planning needs, present potential environmental risks, and require different kinds of interaction with the Federal Aviation Administration. This Primer is a high-level overview of NextGen designed for airport directors and their senior executive staff. It provides an introduction to ACRP Report 150: NextGen for Airports series reports that contain detailed technical information and planning guidelines for understanding, preparing for, and implementing NextGen technologies at airports. The primer covers what NextGen is, NextGen airport impacts, NextGen capabilities for airports, and highlights of the five ACRP Report 150 reports.
